MONACO GP – RACE

29 May 2016
DANIEL RICCIARDO, Finish Position: 2nd, Start Position: pole position
“On the extremes in the beginning we were quick and I did everything I had to. I asked a couple of times how the people on inters were doing but they said that my pace was really good on the extremes so we stayed out and that was no problem. And then they said “box this lap”. We put the inters on and then we came out behind Lewis. Then when Lewis pitted we tried to pit the lap later to overcut him. It was all prepared and then I came into the pits and there were no tyres.
I actually hate being like this. I hate being miserable. I got a podium in Monaco. I should be extremely happy, grateful and thankful. I’ve been fast now for two races and that’s the positive, but again no win so I’m a little bit sick of being fast and not getting any real rewards. I don’t like being the sad story. To end it on a positive note, we are fast in all conditions, which is good.” [Read More!]

Valtteri finished the race 11th but was demoted to 12th by a 10-second time penalty, applied by the stewards for causing a collision with Gutierrez

MONACO GP – QUALIFYING

28 May 2016
DANIEL RICCIARDO, Position: POLE POSITION, (Practice 3 – P4, 1:14.807)
“I’m happy! I put it together when I needed to. Qualifying just built up and built up and I found the rhythm, and then that first run in Q3 was the one I needed to do. I feel I’ve been qualifying very well all year, and it’s cool to get my first pole in Formula One, this place more than any is a great place to get it at. Hopefully tomorrow we can convert it to the win, that’s the plan. It’s the first pole for the team in a while too, it’s a very good feeling. Coming into the weekend I believed I could be here today and it’s nice to match that belief. The lap felt good. I knew once I’d done it, it would be hard to beat because we were competitive with Mercedes and I hadn’t yet put together the best lap. [Read More!]

Monaco GP Practice

26/05/2016
Objectives: Aero evaluations, set-up and tyre work.

Rob Smedley, Head of Performance Engineering: It was a typical Monaco Thursday, with everything thrown at it. We had the unfortunate incident with Felipe in FP1, and the guys in the garage did a brilliant job to get him back out for FP2. We’ve got everything done that we needed to between the cars, despite that. It’s just unfortunate that Felipe has missed some running on the track, which is really important in Monaco. He’ll have to recover from that on Saturday morning. Valtteri got through everything we wanted. We’ve done long enough runs on each of the tyre compounds, so we’ve got a good idea how they’ll behave. Now it’s a case of getting ourselves ready for Saturday. There’s a lot to do and look through, as usual, but fortunately we’ve got an extra day to do it. [Read More!]

AHEAD OF THE MONACO GRAND PRIX

Max Verstappen
“I always enjoy racing street circuits like Monaco because you are really pushing the limit and are very close to the walls, it gives you a great feeling that you are on top of your car and getting the most out of it.
“It’s so difficult to overtake in Monaco, last year I tried and we ended up in the wall, so the most important thing is to have a good qualifying and start and from there on keep it on the track! Monaco is also special because the track is walking distance from where I live so that’s nice to feel like I’m home during the race weekend. [Read More!]

2016 Formula 1 Pirelli Spanish Grand Prix, Sunday

15 May 2016
Renault Sport Formula One Team finished a close-packed thirteenth and fourteenth in today’s Pirelli Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya.
A different strategy was employed across the two cars, with Kevin Magnussen changing to a three-stop race and Jolyon Palmer running to two stops. Both drivers were right together for the final laps, with Jolyon finishing just 2.7secs ahead of Kevin.
Kevin started the race in P15 on new soft Pirelli tyres, changing to a new set of medium on lap 10, a new set of hard tyres on lap 30 and a scrubbed set of soft tyres on lap 55.
Jolyon started the race in P17 on new soft tyres, changing to new medium tyres on lap 11 and new hard compound tyres on lap 33. [Read More!]

2016 Spanish Grand Prix – Race

TWO-STOP STRATEGY HELPS MAX VERSTAPPEN TO BECOME THE YOUNGEST WINNER IN F1 HISTORY
Montemelò, May 15, 2016 – Strategy was at the forefront of the Spanish Grand Prix, with the final result remaining in doubt right to the very end as the race protagonists adopted different thinking in the timing and choice of tyre changes. In the end, Max Verstappen became the youngest grand prix winner in history on his Red Bull debut, finishing the race on a set of medium tyres that had completed 32 laps: one lap more than those on the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen, who finished second. Both Ferrari and Red Bull split their strategies: each team stopping twice with one car and three times with the other.
All three compounds – hard, medium and soft – were used throughout the 66-lap grand prix, with a race-long battle between Red Bull and Ferrari, while tyre management provided an essential key to success. Four drivers were still in contention for the win all the way to the final lap, although Daniel Ricciardo was affected by a slow puncture at the very end, probably caused by debris. [Read More!]

Spanish Grand Prix - Montmelò Circuit 15 May

SPANISH GRAND PRIX – MONTMELÒ CIRCUIT 15 MAY
Maurizio Arrivabene: “We must be realistic and accept the fact that, if both Mercedes had been in the race, the result would have been different. Today we had an opportunity and we failed to take advantage. Even if on track we had a fast car we had to pay a hefty price for the problems we experienced in qualifying and which, on some parts of the circuit, re-surfaced during the course of the race. Now we must address these issues and move on from there. Congratulations to Max Verstappen for his maiden Formula One win”. [Read More!]

MAX VERSTAPPEN, Finish Position: WINNER! Start Position: 4th
"it’s a very special feeling. Of course I didn’t expect to win; after the Mercedes pair crashed then you're targeting a podium, but in the end to come out on top, it's incredible. To hear the Dutch national anthem for the first time in Formula One, 1 have to think about my dad for sure and I heard he was crying, so yeah it's unbelievable. He invested a lot of time in me and this achievement is also because of him. I wasn’t nervous during the race, I was just trying to focus and drive the best I could. We focused a lot on keeping the tyres alive because at my last stop I still had to do 32 laps until the end, but it worked out well. With five laps to the end I saw Kimi was dropping off a bit, he tried a few times and of course it kills your tyres and from there I just like 'okay, focus on the tyres now and bring it home'. I will for sure remember this and at the moment it's just a great feeling. It’s amazing, I have no words for it. It was very good company on the podium, I mean Kimi even raced against my dad, so it's very funny! I was celebrating a lot on the in lap and I got a bit of cramp, but that's part of it!" [Read More!]

It took a bit of time to come together, but in Q3 I knew I had one lap and knew I had the pace and where I could do it; it was about putting it all together - up until then I hadn't, but Q3 is what counts and I did it, so l'm really happy." We’re back on European asphalt for the 2016 Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, 13-15 May

11 May 2016
Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain
We’re back in Barcelona for Round 5 of the 2016 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, the Spanish Grand Prix. Familiarity breeds ‘content’ this week because the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is such a known quantity to all of the teams. It’s a real barometer track in that it’s fairly representative of the more traditional road courses F1 encounters during the European phase of the season. If your car works well here, that’s a good sign. We catch up with our drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Rio Haryanto, and Racing Director Dave Ryan, to see what the weekend has in store for Manor Racing. Regarding the first in-season test in Barcelona (17th /18th May), it has been decided to cancel the team’s participation. The reasons are that the Sauber F1 Team will not introduce car updates during the Spanish Grand Prix. Besides that, the team has no young/test driver in place yet. [Read More!]

AHEAD OF THE SPANISH GRAND PRIX

Daniel Ricciardo
“Barcelona marks the start of the summer, the weather is starting to get better and we usually go pretty well at the Circuit de Catalunya so I’m looking forward to it. I know the track well as we spend quite a lot of time there but there’s always things to learn from the track though so I don’t want to say I know it all, but having had a few races in the car it’s about putting it all together and having a strong weekend. RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX

May 1, 2016
At the end of a tough race for our Scuderia, here our drivers and Team Principal's quotes:

Carlos Sainz (STR11-02, Car 55)
Race: Pos. 12th
"What an unfortunate race. Even though I did one of my best ever starts, a piece of another car got stuck in our side pod, which made me lose downforce during my first stint and also meant I had to stop too early for my pit-stop onto the Softs. This then compromised my second stint and I then also got a 10-second penalty...Now it's time to reset, get ready for my home race – it always gives me an extra boost! – and come back stronger than ever." RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX – SOCHI CIRCUIT, 1 MAY

2016 Russian GP
Kimi third. Sebastian out of luck, hit shortly after the start

1 May 2016 – Kimi Raikkonen came third in the Russian Grand Prix. The Finn lost a place to Valtteri Bottas in the early stages, but a clever strategy saw Kimi retake third off his fellow countryman after his only pit stop. Raikkonen thus moves up to third in the Drivers’ classification, after four rounds of the World Championship. Sebastian Vettel’s Russian Grand Prix lasted just a few hundred metres. The German got off the line well, but was hit twice by Daniil Kvyat in the Red Bull, which sent him spinning into the barriers on the outside of Turn 3. Nico Rosberg won for Mercedes. [Read More!]

Weather: sunny and dry, 16-18°C air, 34-42°C track
The Sauber F1 Team finished the Russian Grand Prix in P14 (Ericsson) and P16 (Nasr). Due to an early safety car phase directly after the race start, the Swiss team changed the race strategy for Marcus Ericsson, who started from last position. Felipe Nasr suffered from a slow puncture on the front left tyre, which compromised his race due to an early pit stop. Besides that, the Brazilian received a five second time penalty for not respecting the race director’s instructions regarding turn 2. [Read More!]

Russian Grand Prix

01.05.16
Race Notes:
• Valtteri Bottas finished fourth and Felipe Massa fifth in today’s Russian Grand Prix
• Valtteri had a great start, running as high as second after overtaking Raikkonen in the early stages of the race. He made his only pitstop on lap 16 but ended up losing out to Hamilton and Raikkonen to remain comfortably fourth for the remainder of the race
• Felipe maintained fourth place in the opening laps but eventually lost out to Hamilton. He stopped on lap 18 and remained comfortably in fifth, giving him enough of a gap to make a second pitstop for supersoft tyres as he began struggling with degradation on the soft tyre
• The team picked up 22 points, which has helped close the gap to third-placed Red Bull to just six points in the Constructors’ Championship [Read More!]

“Finishing in the points should now be our regular target”
Sochi Autodrom, Sunday May 1
Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button opening their 2016 points-scoring accounts with respective sixth- and 10th-place finishing positions in the Russian Grand Prix.

For the midfield runners, the shape of the race was largely dictated by a pair of chaotic clashes at Turn Two and Turn Three, on the opening lap. These incidents saw several drivers either forced into retirement, pushed to the tail of the field, or served with penalties. [Read More!]

RUSSIAN GP – RACE

1 May 2016
DANIEL RICCIARDO, Finish Position: 11th, Start Position: 6th
“It’s frustrating and a shame to be out of the race more or less from the first lap onwards but I think these things happen with racing. After the start I felt a big hit. I saw Seb come into me but it looked like he got hit as well. We had a lot of damage and had to pit. We thought we’d try the mediums but that wasn’t really working. Unfortunately the damage was so much that we didn’t really learn anything from today’s race and we don’t know what our pace was. Barcelona and Monaco should be better, so we have a few races to be excited about.” [Read More!]
