2015 BRITISH GRAND PRIX PREVIEW

Round 9/19, 03-05 July 2015

Fernando Alonso
“We go to the British Grand Prix on the back of a productive test session in Austria last week. We completed a large number of laps and I’m looking forward to getting in the car again at Silverstone, which is one of the best tracks on the calendar.”

Jenson Button
“Who doesn’t love Silverstone? The high-speed nature of the track makes it a brilliant challenge for the drivers, and the fans are something else – so knowledgeable and passionate. I’ve always loved my home race and I’ll savour every moment again this year.” [Read More!]

Red Bull Race Preview: GP GB 2015

Daniel Ricciardo

OK Daniel, admit it, you have a little bit of man-love for Silverstone...

I can’t hide it! Silverstone’s awesome. I love high-speed circuits with high-speed corners – and so the run from Copse through Maggotts, Becketts, Chapel and then around Stowe... maybe the five coolest corners on the calendar and to have them coming at you one after the other. Yeah, I love it. [Read More!]

Austrian Grand Prix Spielberg

21st June 2015
Maurizio Arrivabene: “Which positives can we take from this weekend? Not many, but certainly once more we are aware that Sebastian was the big asset we could get this year, together with a team which is fully committed and now is said to be the second force in the championship. But I’d like us to be the first, and that means we have to commit ourselves beyond what’s possible. We must use whatever we have available and try to get as close as we can to our main competitors, taking advantage of their mistakes. Also, as per the time we lost during Seb’s unfortunate pit stop, we must work with humbleness: because, even if everything had gone well, that wouldn’t have been enough to beat both Mercedes on track. But this only prods us to never give up”. [Read More!]

Austrian Grand Prix – Race

Sunday, 21.06.2015
Weather: sunny/overcast and dry, 14-16°C air, 27-36°C track

The Sauber F1 Team ended the Austrian Grand Prix in 11th (Nasr) and 13th (Ericsson). A disappointing result considering the starting positions 8th and 11th. Felipe Nasr struggled with overheating brakes, therefore, the Brazilian was not able to keep up his pace. Marcus Ericsson’s race was compromised by a jump start, which cost him a drive-through-penalty. In addition, after an incident on lap one, the Swede had a damaged car which affected his performance and was followed by an electronic issue. [Read More!]

2015 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX

“We’ll get going, just wait and see”
Zeltweg, Sunday June 21
A difficult and disappointing weekend for everybody at McLaren-Honda.
Starting from 19th (Fernando) and 20th (Jenson), both drivers were out after eight laps.
Fernando retired on lap one after Kimi Raikkonen lost control of his Ferrari ahead of him, at the exit of Turn Two. The collision resulted in both cars crashing spectacularly, immediately prompting a Safety Car to clear the debris.
Jenson boxed under the Safety Car to fit Prime tyres, with the aim of running an effective ‘one-stopper’ to the finish. He then took a 10-second stop-go (a part of yesterday’s grid penalty), but was then ordered by his engineers to retire the car as a precaution after suffering an intake system sensor failure. Formula 1 2015 Austrian Grand Prix, Race

Sahara Force India scored ten points in today’s Austrian Grand Prix as the team moved up to fifth place in the Constructors’ championship.

P6 Nico Hulkenberg VJM08-01
Strategy: Used SuperSofts (25 laps) - New Softs (46 laps)

Nico: “I’m very satisfied with sixth place today. Going into the race we always knew it would be difficult to keep the Williams of Bottas behind me, so bringing the car home in sixth was probably the maximum we could achieve. I had some good wheel-to-wheel battles with him and we swapped places a few times, but it was hard to match their absolute pace. Overall it’s been a great weekend: I found a nice rhythm and I have been very happy with the performance of the car. With Checo in the points as well, it’s been an excellent weekend for us and we can be proud of what we’ve achieved. It’s an important boost ahead of Silverstone where we hope to make another step forward.” [Read More!]

Scuderia Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen was the highest classified Renault-powered driver, passing the flag in eighth. Infiniti Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo finished in tenth, just 3secs from ninth despite a grid penalty. Team-mate Daniil Kvyat finished in 12th, also hampered by a grid penalty. [Read More!]

Austrian Grand Prix Spielberg, 20 June 2015

Kimi Raikkonen “It has been a very bad Saturday and this result will not help us tomorrow. When I went out for my last run in Q1, the team informed me that I could do three timed laps, but then the plan was changed and I did not get the information. Therefore we missed one lap completely and I was knocked out. The point is that I was sent out too late and that cost us a lot. Obviously my starting position is not ideal; we should have been much higher up, I’m sure we could have fought at the front. Tomorrow we should have the speed we need, but you never know what happens in the race. In the first lap it will be better to stay away of problems because there is a much bigger chance of something happening in the first few corners. There is a long straight, but also two corners which can be tricky if you happen to be in the middle of the pack. Then we’ll try to maximize our result. Until now it has been a pretty good weekend, the car is handling well: we’ll try to do our best and see what we can do”. [Read More!]

Objectives: Aero evaluations, set-up and tyre work.

Rob Smedley, Head of Performance Engineering: We came here with a certain car philosophy and we’re happy with the way things have gone. We’ve run on both fuel levels and we’re quite competitive – certainly back to a much more normal position for us. We’ve gone through our work diligently in terms of tyre and brake management, which are the two things an order of magnitude more important than anything else on this track. Off the back of a difficult Monaco, we’re in shape to have a good weekend here. [Read More!]
