Romain scores to secure sixth in Constructors’, Pastor retires

Romain Grosjean pulled off two late overtakes to grab ninth at the 2015 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for a fitting Enstone farewell, and in the process secure sixth in the Constructors’ standings after Pastor was forced to retire.

Initially handed the setback of a five place grid penalty due to a gearbox replacement, eventually starting in 18th, the Frenchman pulled off an impressive 24 lap first stint to haul himself into points contention. [Read More!]

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Yas Marina

29 November 2015
Maurizio Arrivabene: “Kimi drove a very good race today, as I expected him to do, and Seb charged from fifteenth on the grid to fourth place across the finish line. This is a result which wraps up a bit the whole season. Already at the first test last winter, we had had some positive feedback: but then we also knew that we had a mountain to climb, and the guys in the team did it step by step, both at the circuits and at the factory. It’s a whole team effort we were able to put on, with everybody working hard to improve. A big thanks to all of them, they’ve been fantastic and deserve the highest grades! Special thanks to our President, who never stopped pushing and supporting us from behind the curtains. Now we know that we face an even bigger challenge for next year, not only catching up on our rivals but also trying to stay ahead of them.” [Read More!]

Felipe Massa finished eighth and Valtteri Bottas 13th in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Both drivers were able to make up positions after the first lap, during the short first stint of the race on the super soft tyre.
Felipe spent most of the race in a battle for seventh place. He passed Kvyat for P8 in the final stint but was unable to catch Hulkenberg before the finish.
Valtteri made contact with Button in his first pit stop, damaging his front wing. He had to pit again for a new nose and later serve a five-second penalty, which dropped him down the field.
Valtteri and Felipe clinched fifth and sixth places in the Drivers’ Championship, with the team having already sealed third in the Constructors’. [Read More!]

Carlos Sainz (STR10-01, Car 55)
Race: 11th
“I’d say it’s been a good day and a positive weekend overall after a very tough start. I’m pleased because we managed to overcome all the problems we had on Friday and we put a very good race together to finish in P11 – I think it was the maximum we could do today. It shows that when we don’t suffer any problems we can be there. My rookie season ends with a positive feeling because I think we’ve had a good year and overall I’ve definitely learned a lot every race, become a better driver and this will make me stronger. I’d also like to thank the whole team for all their hard work during this year, it’s been great!” [Read More!]

ABU DHABI GP – RACE

29 November 2015
DANIEL RICCIARDO, Finish Position: 6th, Start Position: 5th
“Top 5 would have been a bit sweeter, but I couldn’t hold off Seb, whom we expected to get past us more towards the end of the race. I held him off for a lap and then, especially on those Options, his pace was so much quicker. I tried to get Perez, but couldn’t get close enough. At the start I had a sniff at Hulkenberg and went for it and that paid off. Parts of it were fun. I would have liked more battles though, but it looked quite spread out. It’s a circuit I enjoy fighting on. I have confidence in the big breaking zones here. I think we ended the season well and feel I got the most out of the car, so I’m leaving the season more happy than I was a few races ago. Sixth is probably not that representative of how good our weekend was, but I’m pretty pleased. I would love to go racing next weekend but at the same time I’m happy the season is over and I’m optimistic that next year will be better. I think we ended the season with a lot more feeling and confidence in the chassis. This season has made us stronger as a unit and I’m happy to move forward with these guys to be better next year.” [Read More!]

I managed to build up my confidence and set-up my car as I wanted during what was a very smooth FP3. Today’s qualifying was tough, as I had to get used to the twilight conditions and get the braking references right – something I wasn’t able to do yesterday in FP2 because of the lack of running. It was important for me to have a good qualifying here and I have to say I’m very satisfied with P10. I was able to stay calm and did a very good lap when it mattered. 2015 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix - Qualifying

“The car feels the best it has all year”
Yas Marina Circuit, Saturday November 28

Today was a day of mixed fortunes for our drivers in Abu Dhabi.

It’s a mark of the progress we’ve made this weekend that Jenson Button’s 12th position in qualifying felt like something of a disappointment – particularly after he’d posted an extremely impressive ninth-fastest time in Q1.

Fernando Alonso, too, looked set to vault into Q2, having set a strong Q1 banker lap. However, on his final flying lap, he suffered a left-rear puncture, bringing his ambitions to a halt. Pirelli’s technicians have examined the tyre, and their analysis clearly shows that the cut in the sidewall was caused by an external agent. [Read More!]

DANIEL RICCIARDO, Position: 5, (3rd Practice – 6, 1:42.726)
“I’m happy with the session; I think we’ve done really well. We were able to improve in every session and the weekend so far has been pretty smooth. Our lap time kept on getting better and better and that’s when you know the session’s gone well. You find a few tenths each run. Last year, one of my best qualifying performances was here and today sort of backed that up. Our target for tomorrow is definitely to keep the Williams behind us and find a way around Perez. He was really quick today. I hope they fade a bit in the race. It should be interesting tomorrow. We won’t have an easy time passing them on track but at least it’s a track where you can overtake. The DRS zones are good and you can definitely have a go.” [Read More!]

2015 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix - Practice

“Fernando’s performance was very encouraging”
Yas Marina Circuit, Friday November 27

Today’s were a busy pair of practice sessions: not only did we refine MP4-30 for its last competitive outing on Sunday, but we also spent a considerable amount of time collecting and correlating data for use for our 2016 car.

Fernando’s car ran with a test rear suspension set-up for today, and he also ran an interim 2016-spec steering wheel. Both drivers conducted aero correlation work as we continue to improve our understanding of our car’s behaviour, with a view to optimising next year’s chassis. [Read More!]

“This morning’s FP1 was a good start to the weekend. We started to understand the track and the car, as well as working on the balance. Of course, the position where we ended up this morning isn’t where we wanted to be, but we are not that worried yet. We had a similar situation in Brazil and in the end we were competitive. In this afternoon’s FP2 we continued our programme, trying to set up the car in a better way and I think we went in the right direction. If we now put everything we’ve learned from today in place, we are almost there. I hope for a good rest of the weekend here in Abu Dhabi.” [Read More!]

“Today was a good day for us. This afternoon we made some adjustments with the set-up from this morning and the evening session is the one that reflects the conditions we will see in qualifying and the race. I was happy with the balance and think we were more or less where we want to be. As always, there’s some fine tuning to do but I’m pleased with where we ended today. Force India were quick and surprisingly strong here. I’m happy with the car. We are pretty much 95% to where we want to be so that’s good for a Friday. As always on Saturday, Ferrari and Williams seem to make a bit more of a step. Hopefully the others don’t close the gap too much but let’s see what happens tomorrow. Sure we can find a little bit more but probably not a whole lot. If we qualify top 5, we’ll be happy.” [Read More!]

The season finale got underway at Yas Marina Circuit today with the first of the Free Practice sessions for Sunday’s 2015 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Roberto Merhi was back in the hot seat for the first time since the Russian Grand Prix early last month, and he spent the early part of the first session acclimatising to what, for him, is a new circuit, before progressing the day’s tyre evaluation and race set-up programme. Will Stevens, meanwhile, is racing at Yas Marina for the second time in his career this weekend, having made his F1 debut here 12 months ago. He ended the day as the lead Manor driver in 19th, with Roberto in 20th. [Read More!]

Abu Dhabi GP Practice

27.11.15
Objectives: Aero evaluations, set-up and tyre work.

Rob Smedley, Head of Performance Engineering: Everything went according to plan. We were doing some development work for next year's car as well as the work for this weekend on the tyres and the set-up. We need to find a bit of time on both the low and high fuel, looking at where we were today, but we've got a lot to go through from today so that shouldn't be a big deal. If we can find that bit of time, we can be towards the front. [Read More!]

Focus on…Abu Dhabi 2012
The Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi has provided some championship showdowns, and some classic races. One of the most enjoyable came in 2012 when Kimi Raikkonen took an unexpected win for Lotus F1 Team. Lotus had had several podiums over the year, but strong competition from Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren meant that a win had so far eluded them. Kimi Raikkonen’s engine engineer, Ricardo Penteado, recalls when the team finally secured that victory: [Read More!]

2015 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix - Preview

24 November 2015 , Brackley
The 2015 Formula One World Championship season concludes with Round Nineteen, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, from Yas Island

Lewis Hamilton
The Yas Marina really is a stunning place to hold the season-ending Grand Prix. The organisers clearly spent a lot of time and effort on designing the most spectacular venue imaginable and the track is one I really enjoy driving. It's actually a really challenging circuit. There are a couple of high speed corners but it's mostly medium to low speed, so despite the long straights you need to set the car up with a downforce level tuned for low speed grip. It's also a twilight race, starting late afternoon and running into the night, which is quite unusual and I imagine must be pretty cool to watch on TV. Last year, this place brought probably the most intense weekend of my life. I didn't sleep much through nerves and not knowing what was ahead. But this time around there's no pressure, so I'll be well-rested and aiming to go out on a high. A lot of British fans come out to Abu Dhabi so it's like another home crowd for me. To win for them and show how grateful I am for the fantastic support I've had all year would be the best way to end an incredible season.

RACE PREVIEW
Abu Dhabi
27 – 29 November

It’s just six years since Abu Dhabi arrived on the calendar with Formula One’s first ever day-into-night race, yet the Yas Marina circuit already feels like one of the long-established homes. The ultra-modern design stands apart due to its unique features, including the LED-lit hotel sprawling over the circuit and tunnelled pit lane exit, as well as joining the likes of Monaco and Singapore in boasting a trackside yacht-filled marina. The long straights and open nature of the circuit promote entertaining racing, and the venue was the scene of celebrations for Williams in 2014 as a double podium for Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas cemented third in the 2015 Constructors’ Championship for the team. Brazilian Grand Prix - Interlagos, 15 November 2015

Maurizio Arrivabene: “Our pace today was good: on some laps we were close to the Mercedes, on some other stages we were matching their lap times and on some occasions we managed to be even quicker. Overall, though, they were quicker than us on more occasions. Looking at the data, we see that despite having no safety car period in this race, we were closer at the end than in most other races this year. And our cars were the only ones not to be lapped! With Seb, we switched from two to three pit stops, fitting Options on his second stint for purely strategic reasons, a three stopper would have allowed Seb to be more aggressive. He really pushed throughout the race. With Kimi, we stayed on the two stops to cover every possible situation, and this explains why he had more tire degradation than Seb. Much of the credit goes to our car and all the people who worked on it all year. Now we move on to Abu Dhabi and the last race of the season. We said we wanted to end up this year in style, and that means we’ll be trying everything we can to achieve a brilliant result!” [Read More!]

BRAZILIAN GRAND PRIX – INTERLAGOS, 14 NOVEMBER 2015

Kimi Raikkonen: “I don’t think it’s ever going to be easy but you know, today it was not too bad. I went sideways in the last lap in turn 11 and this also affected the run into the last corner. So the end of my lap was not ideal and I lost time, but apart from that the car has been working well, so let’s see what we can do tomorrow, trying to make a good start and moving on from there. The balance of the car was ok, it has been behaving pretty well, although obviously not fast enough for beating the Mercedes. For sure we could have been a bit higher up the time chart, but I think it was not too bad. I’ll start from fourth anyway tomorrow and maybe the weather will be different from today. I heard about Paris this morning, it’s very sad. Unfortunately, in the world these odd things seem to happen.” [Read More!]

RACE PREVIEW
SAO PAULO
13 – 15 OCTOBER

It may be one of the shortest tracks on the Formula One calendar, but the 4.3km José Carlos Pace Circuit presents a number of challenges to teams. It combines a long sweeping start/finish straight with a tricky infield section so choosing the right setup compromise is paramount. The high altitude (800m) leaves the power units feeling breathless, and the bumps and undulations keep the drivers on their toes. The Brazilian crowd always give their countrymen a raucous reception and Felipe secured a podium last season that sent the José Carlos Pace Circuit into a memorable frenzy. [Read More!]

AHEAD OF THE BRAZILIAN GRAND PRIX

Daniil Kvyat

We’ve just come from a race in Mexico that had an incredible atmosphere and now we’re going to another with a similarly crazy crowd – the Brazilian Grand Prix. Is it a race you enjoy?
Definitely. It’s one of F1’s classic tracks and the atmosphere is always great. I think they have done some rebuilding there and I’m looking forward to seeing how the paddock has changed. It was the smallest of the year and kind of difficult for teams to work in and it will be good to see what has been done.
But whatever they have done I don’t think it will change the atmosphere. It’s always amazing, with the fans so close to the track. They really have a big passion for Formula One and the feeling is always good on the grid there – even though it’s a bit crazy! [Read More!]

Mexican Grand Prix - Mexico City

1 November 2015
Maurizio Arrivabene: “Over the course of this season we had already managed to touch the sky. This time we reached the bottom. But today’s race was a lesson of humility that we must put to good use and that will further bind the team together and strengthen the character of everybody. I had already seen yesterday how this team can react to difficulties, having had to replace both engine and gearbox in so little time. Today, we are not blaming anybody: we are a team, we win and lose together. I regret the result as we had a really good pace in the race, but that’s racing, you can always have a bad day. This does not change our targets for the season, as Seb can still catch Rosberg in the point standings and Kimi can do the same with Bottas”. [Read More!]

Mexican Grand Prix

Valtteri Bottas finished third and Felipe Massa sixth in today’s Mexican Grand Prix.
Both cars had good starts but were caught out when Vettel slowed with a puncture and lost ground to the Red Bulls.
Early pitstops gave the drivers free air to push and each overtook a Red Bull as the pitstops evened out.
A late safety car allowed Felipe and Valtteri to pit for new option tyres and Valtteri took the opportunity to overtake Kvyat at the restart for the final podium spot. [Read More!]

MEXICAN GRAND PRIX - RACE REPORT

The FIA Formula One World Championship returned to Mexico in spectacular fashion this weekend. The challenging, twisty Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez was the atmospheric venue for its first visit in over 20 years.

MEXICO GP – RACE

1 November 2015
DANIIL KVYAT, Finish Position: 4th Start Position: 4th
“As a team I think today we did a perfect job, scoring solid points from a solid race. The podium was very close and we were fighting until the end, but on the restart after the safety car we didn’t have enough pace on the straight and Williams went full bananas, so Bottas passed me quite easily. It was a shame about not getting on the podium, I thought we had it and we deserved it today, and maybe without the safety car we would have, but that’s racing and we have to accept it. The race was still fantastic though; good racing, good controlled laps and I’m happy with how all 71 laps went. We’ve been very strong this weekend and the track has suited us quite well. I think this weekend showed we can be champions if we get back on the path. I believe in this team, I believe in us and I believe in our future.” [Read More!]
