Pre-season test three: Barcelona, Spain, February 26-March 1, 2015
“Barcelona represented the final opportunity for the teams to assess the interaction between our latest tyres and the 2015 cars, which as we have all noted appear to be significantly quicker than last year’s cars. We’ve seen a difference of up to two seconds, and that gap could be even bigger on the softer compounds. Because of this, the way that the tyres work with the cars has altered, which clearly has an effect on set-up and strategy. Although we had track temperatures that peaked at 31 degrees centigrade, conditions were still generally much cooler than we will typically see at most of the races, so this is another factor that has to be considered, particularly in the case of the hard tyre. The teams were able to test the entire range of 2015 P Zero tyres in Barcelona, which have a new rear construction this year, including the supersoft, which has a brand new compound as well. The soft compound set the fastest time of the test: two and a half seconds faster than last year’s pole time. Although there were some brief periods of rain, we only saw limited running on the intermediate tyre. Compared to last year though, it’s clear that most teams are already well-prepared for the season ahead.”

Renault Sport F1 Barcelona Test 2
Third winter test and second at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya offered a final chance to prepare the Renault Energy-F1 2015 before Melbourne.
Renault and its partner teams largely fulfilled their objectives with Infiniti Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso accumulating a combined total of 9,800km, the equivalent of 32 grands prix over the three tests.
Improvements to the Power Unit shown on track confirmed dyno simulations. With ten days of development remaining before Melbourne, more performance is expected before the season opener.
This week saw Renault Sport F1 conclude its on-track pre-season preparations at the third and final winter test in Barcelona ahead of the upcoming FIA Formula One World Championship campaign.

Pastor completes final day of 2015 testing
A systems issue brought an early end to the final day of preseason testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, with Pastor Maldonado’s compromised braking causing the E23 Hybrid to make contact with the wall.
The turn four collision ended the team’s programme early in the afternoon. However the reliability and continued running of the car in the previous tests at Barcelona and Jerez meant the team could opt to end the day, instead of rushing timely repairs.
