Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix Qualifying Saturday

Weather: FP3: sunny/overcast and dry, 26-27C air, 42-48C track;
Qualifying: rainy/overcast/sunny and wet/damp/dry, 21-26C air, 25-34C track

The Sauber F1 Team finished an exciting qualifying ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix in P16 (Felipe Nasr) and P20 (Marcus Ericsson). Due to heavy rain, the qualifying was delayed (14:20 hrs, CEST) and had to be interrupted four times in Q1 because of the difficult conditions. Felipe Nasr put in a good performance, especially in the wet conditions in Q1. Marcus Ericsson made a mistake and hit the barriers. The chassis at his Sauber C35-Ferrari needs to be changed, which means that Ericsson will start the Hungarian Grand Prix from the pit lane.

Marcus Ericsson (car number 9):
Sauber C35-Ferrari (Chassis 04/Ferrari)
Qualifying: 20th in Q1 (1:46.984 min / wet tyres)
3rd practice: 20th (1:23.219 min / supersoft tyres / 23 laps)
It was a very disappointing qualifying for me. The conditions were quite tricky with lots of standing water, but that was the same for everyone. I lost the car, so in the end it was my mistake and the session was quickly over for me. I should have done better. I apologise to the team for the work load I have caused them. I will fight back tomorrow.

Felipe Nasr (car number 12):
Sauber C35-Ferrari (Chassis 03/Ferrari)
Qualifying: 16th in Q2 (1:27.063 min / supersoft tyres)
3rd practice: 19th (1:22.816 min / supersoft tyres / 23 laps)
That was an eventful qualifying. We were all surprised that the rain arrived before the session started. I think I extracted the most out of the car today. To be honest, I was happy to see us temporarily in P1 at the end of Q1 in the wet conditions. Unfortunately when the track started to dry and we changed to supersoft tyres, I could not improve my last lap as this run was a bit compromised by traffic. Nevertheless, it was a good qualifying for me, one that I will remember.
