One More Day
Romain Grosjean drove on his final day of pre-season testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, and the Frenchman made the most of it as he clocked up 116 laps.
The E23 Hybrid was ready to go the moment the track opened and Romain left with an aero rake attached to the car and began a morning programme dedicated to aero assessments and set-up assessments.
The weather played a role in the programme’s order, with the chilly morning better suiting aero and set-up work.
Once the lunch interval passed, the ever increasing temperature meant that Romain could undertake a race simulation and the lengthy stint saw the Enstone team pass the 100 lap mark for the second time in the final Barcelona tests.
With the laps clocked, Romain was able to set a best time of 1min 24.200secs and feels confident the team is moving in the right direction for the opening Grand Prix of the season in Melbourne.
“That was a long day and the track conditions varied quite a lot,” he said. “This morning went pretty well, we had a lot of work to do with some aero and set-up tasks as we’re trying to test as many things as possible before Melbourne.”
“In the afternoon we ran a race simulation and other performance evaluations. There’s potential for improvement in some areas but we have plenty of data to get the car more to where we want it to be for Melbourne. I can’t wait to for the season to start.”
Once again, running was consistent and reliable and Trackside Operations Director Alan Permane expects a busy final day in Spain.
“Today we completed another extensive programme with the E23 running reliably throughout,” he said. “Track conditions were quite difficult for establishing a baseline as the track temperature varied a lot through the day, but nevertheless we ran for over 100 laps and have a lot more information relating to the various aero and set-up configurations. We have quite a long night ahead of us as tomorrow is the final day of testing where we hope to make further progress with Pastor at the wheel.”
Pastor will take the wheel for the final day of pre-season testing, before all focus turns to Australia.
